Leonardo, housed in the new Cineca datacenter at the Bologna Tecnopolo, is among the most advanced pre-exascale supercomputers in Europe. Funded by the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking and the Ministry of University and Research, with a computational capacity of 240 million billion operations per second, Leonardo represents a key infrastructure for scientific research, climate modeling, artificial intelligence, and advanced simulations. In one hour it can process the equivalent of 920 years of work on a laptop computer.
In such a technologically sophisticated environment, lighting plays an essential role in ensuring optimal operating conditions. This is where 3F Filippi comes in, chosen to design and implement the lighting for the White Space, the room that houses the Leonardo supercomputer.

Light technology in the service of performance

The project involved the installation of 3F Zeta DR UGR, a lighting system designed specifically for high-tech environments. On an area of more than 1,000 square meters with no intermediate pillars - a key element to ensure maximum flexibility - 3F Zeta DR ensures efficient, uniform and controlled light.
Thanks to its lighting and mechanical characteristics, 3F Zeta DR works around the clock in synergy with air conditioning systems, helping to keep Leonardo at the ideal operating temperature. The LED technology employed generates minimal heat, reducing the risk of overheating in such a sensitive environment.
The DR UGR screen integrated into the light fixtures effectively limits glare, improving the legibility of displays and ensuring optimal visual conditions for technical operators during maintenance activities.
